Winning chase debut for General Medrano

A comfortable winner on his seasonal and chasing debut at Uttoxeter on Sunday 8 October, the Emma Lavelle-trained General Medrano has marked himself out as a novice chaser to follow.

General Medrano, a six-year-old son of rising star Jumps stallion Ocovango, improved for a wind operation midway through last season, winning easily at Fontwell in February. He then finished a good fourth in the valuable novices' handicap hurdle final at Sandown's end-of-season meeting.

On his return to action at Uttoxeter, General Medrano took a while to warm to his fences but was soon jumping smoothly and travelled well under Tom Bellamy.

With this first chase win under his belt, hopes are high that General Medrano can continue to improve over fences this season.
