Promise from first Club runners of 2021
18 February 2021
The recent winter weather has ravaged Britain's scheduled race meetings in recent weeks, but the first two Club runners of the year, the Julie Camacho-trained pair - Maurice Dancer and his half-sister, Oh So Quiet (pictured above) - have warmed members' spirits with encouraging runs on the all-weather.
Maurice Dancer, a nursery handicap winner in 2019, went close a couple of times last season and has shown his potential again this year. Last month, he finished a close fifth in a 7f handicap at Wolverhampton, before finishing third over course and distance to a progressive winner on 1 February. Hopefully, he can get his head in front at this level in the coming months.
Oh So Quiet, who made her second career start in a 1m fillies' novice stakes at Newcastle on 11 February, showed signs of her inexperience but took a step forward in finishing fourth and should have learned plenty from the run.
Looking ahead, on the Jumps front, novices' hurdle winner Lisheen Castle should be returning to action in the coming weeks, and trainer Emma Lavelle has already started to make entries for him. Mon Frere, a dual winner on the Flat two seasons ago, has shown promise in his schooling at home and trainer Paul Nicholls is hoping for some decent ground ahead of his possible hurdling debut in March.
