Maiden win for Mon Frere
07 August 2019
Mon Frere wrote himself into the history books on Saturday, 3 August, when he became yet another winner to hail from Elite Racing Club's successful breeding programme.
Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, Mon Frere, a three-year-old gelding by the Derby winner Pour Moi and out of Club winner-turned-broodmare Sistine (from the family of Camelot), has shown glimmers of promise in his short career to date, but was always expected to show more with maturity.
On his two previous starts this season, Mon Frere had been tried over 1m 4f and then 2m, but dropping back to 1m 6f on his latest appearance, at Chelmsford, he was always at or close to the pace, and stayed on well to win by four lengths.
Hopefully, Mon Frere will be able to add to his tally before the end the season's end. This victory was the fifth of the year so far for Elite Racing Club, and Mon Frere is the Club's fourth individual winner in the same period.
Hopes for further Club homebred success in 2019 are high. From a total string of 14 horses in training, four are yet to make their racecourse debut, including Viola, a two-year-old Lope De Vega half-sister to Mon Frere, and Lady Angela, another two-year-old, who is a half-sister to the dual Group 1-winning Marsha and the Club's prolific sprinter, Judicial.
