Homebred Elgin wins first Listed race
10 November 2017
Marsha was not the only good result for the Club last weekend, as Elgin won his first Listed race when capturing the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday 4 November. The homebred gelding showed great improvement from his fourth-place at Chepstow last month, having won twice last season. The son of Duke Of Marmalade also finished in the frame in two Grade 2 events, proving he could be an exciting prospect for the current season.
Alan King could now aim him for the £150,000 Ladbroke Hurdle at Ascot in December, as he has just proven himself over the course and distance. Elgin has been raised 5lbs by the handicapper after this impressive, tenacious performance, and is becoming one of the most exciting two-mile hurdling prospects around. He has been fabulously handled by the team at Barbury Castle, who have nurtured this big horse for two seasons, after he failed to make a Flat horse sue to being too weak.
The Club's patience is now being repaid in spades as he looks as though he could take us to some of the top venues this winter, so we hope he can continue to provide great entertainment to out thousands of jumping fans.
