Handicap debut win for Zapphire

Julie Camacho and her team are having their best-ever season, and the North Yorkshire stable added yet another win to their tally when Elite Racing Club's Zapphire won on her handicap debut at Haydock on Saturday 12 August.

Zapphire had shown plenty of promise on her racecourse debut last November, when third in a 7f novice stakes at Musselburgh. Although her inexperience was apparent that day, she stepped forward on her third start, two months ago, when second on soft ground at Beverley, and surpassed that form with her win at Haydock last Saturday.

Although Zapphire still looked a little green, her winning performance was decent and has earned her an above-average handicap rating of 76, with the distinct possibility of further improvement to come.

From the Club's highly successful breeding programme, Zapphire is from the family of the talented winner, Stars Above Me, and the top-class Soviet Song and Group 1 winner, Ribbons.
