Elgin could build on recent run on hurdling debut
25 November 2016
Saturday's meeting at Newcastle is the course's feature meeting for the winter game. The Club has ELGIN running in the first race, and we have great hopes four our homebred son of Duke Of Marmalade. Trained by Alan King, Elgin made a promising start to his National Hunt career last season when finishing fifth in a Southwell bumper on his debut, after suffering interference. He soon built on this by winning a competitive bumper at Haydock, which is a race that has worked out pretty well form-wise.
Alan was delighted with Elgin's first run of the season at Aintree three weeks ago, when he gave weight away to the year-older Cruiseaweigh, who looks a very smart individual. Alan has been pleased with Elgin's schooling, so we are very hopeful he could run a good race tomorrow. Elgin appears to have the Carlisle winner, Dubai Angel to beat, as the latter was most impressive when winning for the in-form Malcolm Jefferson recently.
We are very pleased with the start the Club has made this National Hunt season, and we would be delighted if Elgin could make the season even better by winning tomorrow.
