Cheltenham Festival Entries
07 February 2017
Alan King has entered both ELGIN and TOP TUG in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival next month. Elgin has made a great start to his hurdling career, winning his first two races, including a competitive race on Kempton's King George card on Boxing Day. He has since finished second in the Grade 2 Sky Bet Supreme Trial at Haydock last month, which was no disgrace behind the unbeaten Neon Wolf. The fourth-placed horse in the race has won since, giving the race's form a solid look.
Elgin handles cut in the ground, whereas Top Tug prefers good ground. Top Tug won his first race on the Flat for the Club last season, and did the same over hurdles when winning at Kempton in November. He was pretty impressive that day, and has chased home some useful horses since, including the impressive High Bridge when finishing second at Catterick last time out. Top Tug is having a short break before returning to action in the spring, when he can mix both hurdling and Flat racing if Alan King spies a suitable opportunity.
It is exciting to have entries at the Festival this season, as we have very special memories of Penzance winning the Triumph Hurdle for us back in 2005, which was a very special day.
