Two wins in three days!

Two wins in three days!

20 July 2021

Hot on the heels of recording his first win at Epsom on 8 July, the Roger Charlton-trained Amalfi Bay added a second victory to his CV just a week later. Returning to Epsom Downs on Thursday 15 July, Amalfi Bay defied a 6lb penalty to beat the well-regarded runner-up, who was well clear of the third.

Amalfi Bay was the toast of the Club visit to Roger Charlton's Beckhampton Stables the following day and his Derby-winning trainer is hoping to find some softer ground for him when the hot spell comes to an end, possibly over further.

Just two days after Amalfi Bay's latest win, the fellow homebred Viola chalked up the third win of her relatively short career to date. The win was significant as it was also her first win on turf, on the historic Town Moor course at Doncaster.

Battling all the way to the line, Viola showed plenty of grit to win off a handicap mark of 81. The James Fanshawe-trained four-year-old had won twice on the all-weather previously, including at Lingfield in May (pictured), and hopes are high that this first turf success can pave the way for further, similarly stirring performances this season.

With four horses winning a total of seven races so far in 2021, and the two-year-olds Citrus Grove and Glenister waiting in the wings, hopefully there'll be more exciting times for the enthusiastic Elite Racing Club members in the months ahead.
