Sentinel on duty for the Club tomorrow night
13 January 2017
The jumpers are tucked away in their stables this weekend, leaving it to the three-year-old SENTINEL to fly the flag for the Club. Sentinel has tested every ounce of Charlie Fellowes' patience in his short career, as he kept needing time off and treatment for an injury he developed when in training through the summer. It was not until the autumn that Charlie started to have a clear run with Sentinel, and he has now run three times, earning him a handicap mark of 60.
While this does not rate him as the most impressive member of our string, he is one of the last foals out of popular Club broodmare, Baralinka, who was put to sleep last year as advancing years caught up with her. Therefore, to see this little horse come home in front would be a thrill for thousands of Club Members that can remember seeing Baralinka race in Club colours.
Without Baralinka, we would never have had Marlinka, dam of our Group 1 winner Marsha, or Judicial, who has won six sprints in his career. Tomorrow's race at Wolverhampton is Sentinel's first out of maiden company, which should help immensely. We hope that Sentinel can leave behind the form on his last run, when a wide draw and tough race failed to bring out the best in him. He had looked much better in his previous race, and is drawn better tomorrow night, so we really hope he can put his best foot forward and come home in front.
If he can manage to win a race, dear old Baralinka would have produced yet another winner to make us even more proud of her great achievements, spanning no less than fifteen years!
