Royal Ascot Possibles

23 May 2018

Yesterday, Tribute Act received an early entry into the Royal Hunt Cup on the second day of the Royal Meeting at Ascot on 20th June. Currently, we also have Judicial entered in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes on the first day of the meeting, following his close second in the Palace House Stakes on 2,000 Guineas day at Newmarket.

James Fanshawe has now nominated the Hunt Cup as a suitable option for Tribute Act, who was narrowly denied over Ascot's straight mile on 12th May. James won the race with Macadamia back in 2003, before she landed the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket three weeks later. James is adamant that Tribute Act is course dependent and the fact that she has form over Ascot's straight mile is a big positive. At a Club stable visit last Sunday, James suggested that he will search for Black Type with Tribute Act after this race, to help boost her pedigree once she retires to stud, which is likely to be later this year. The imposing daughter of Exceed And Excel is a half-sister to Group 1 winner, Ribbons, and we look forward to the prospect of her joining the Breeding Programme in due course.

This weekend could see the return of Club favourite, Top Tug, who is entered in two races at Goodwood on Saturday. The popular chestnut is entered in both the Listed Tapster Stakes and the 1m6f handicap he won last year, beating Blakeney Point, who is syndicated by our system company Axom, who could reoppose in the Listed race. Top Tug also has Royal Ascot aspirations, following his fourth place in the Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at the Royal Meeting last season, carrying top weight. He is a very talented horse who should love the very fast ground that is freely available at present and we look forward to seeing him run for the first time this year, before hopefully returning to the Royal Meeting.
