Quiet weekend for Club horses

Quiet weekend for Club horses

09 December 2016

After a few runners last week, this weekend is a quiet one for the Club, as we have no horses entered up at the moment. Some of our trainers are waiting until the busy Festive period to run our horses, when plenty of racing can provide slightly easier opportunities.

We were happy with all of our runners last weekend, despite only hitting the woodwork. Last Thursday, Clemency ran her usual, consistent race to finish third at Leicester, when possibly not quite getting home. The ground remains in her favour at present, so Nicky Henderson will keep entering her up while the ground stays good.

Also from Seven Barrows, Bardd finished fourth in his first race over hurdles when looking in need of the jumping experience. This was not a total surprise, as he had looked pretty green in his two previous races, including when winning his previous start at Sandown last month. Nicky thinks that he will enjoy stepping up to 2m 4f with more cut in the ground, so we remain hopeful that our son of Dylan Thomas can soon open his account over timber.

The following day, Top Tug finished third at Huntingdon when conceding 7lbs to a field of novice hurdlers. He carried a penalty for this win at Kempton last month, and is another that should appreciate stepping up in trip. He was a thorough stayer over 1m 4f on the Flat, so we hope he can go even closer when running over further, which could bring his stamina into play.

On Wednesday, Sentinel was hindered by a wide draw over 6f at Kempton and failed to give his running. He is now eligible for a handicap mark, as competing in handicaps looks to be a better option for him going forward. Luckily, all the horses have come out of their races in good shape, and we look forward to seeing them run again this season.
