Lisheen Castle could return to Wetherby
18 January 2019
Lisheen Castle won his first race in Club colours when victorious at Wetherby on 4th January, and has another entry at the Yorkshire track on Thursday 24th January. Lisheen Castle was bought from Tattersalls' July Sale last year and spent a few months resting, before joining Nicky Henderson's powerful team at Seven Barrows, near Lambourn. On the Flat, he was owned by Qatar Racing and raced for John Quinn, who won a maiden with him before he was placed in Listed company. He ran his last race in his previous owner's maroon colours at Royal Ascot last season.
After schooling well, Lisheen Castle lined up in a juvenile hurdle earlier in the month under Nico de Boinville, who nursed Lisheen Castle through the early stages of the race. He had to avoid some inexperienced horses straying in front of the hurdles, but once Nico pulled him towards the stands' side in the home straight, he gained in confidence and stayed on well. He jumped the last flight really well and stayed on to beat The Knot Is Tied going away. We look forward to the prospect of Lisheen Castle potentially lining up at the same course and distance next Thursday, as he looks to be a very decent prospect in juvenile hurdles for the rest of the season.
