Jumps wins hint at promise for coming season

Elite Racing Club enjoyed a fruitful end to October when Mon Frere and Constancio won their races at Wincanton and Musselburgh respectively.

A winner on his second start over hurdles in the spring, Mon Frere was ready first time out after his summer break when comfortably winning the 2m novices' hurdle at Wincanton on 24 October. Trained by Paul Nicholls, Mon Frere's performance suggested there could be more to come from him this season, possibly over further than 2m.

Constancio's success at Musselburgh on 30 October came amid a flurry of winners for his in-form trainer, Donald McCain, and was the eight-year-old son of Authorized's fourth win for the Club since 2019. If the ground doesn't become too testing, hopefully Constancio can run once more before his usual winter break.

Although he didn't win on his seasonal debut, the Paul Nicholls-trained Tulin (Elite Syndicates, pictured above) ran well at Kempton when he placed second in a Listed novices' hurdle. The winner, Balko Saint, had Grade 2 placed form as a juvenile hurdler last season, and hopefully this run will prove a springboard to further successes for Tulin; last season, his two wins included a success at Taunton which saw him become the 400th winner for Elite Racing Club since 1992.

These recent performances augur well for the prospects of the Club's Jumpers this season, but our Flat runners are still acquitting themselves well. The James Fanshawe-trained Viola ran one of her best races to date when third in a Listed race at her beloved Lingfield on 28 October, which meant the four-year-old homebred filly acquired some black type for her family, and hopefully the 17-time winner Judicial will fly the flag for the Club in another high-class race later this month. His trainer Julie Camacho is currently considering the Listed Golden Rose Stakes at Lingfield for this popular and prolific winner.
