Harmonica making quick reappearance at Lingfield
11 August 2017
Harmonica runs tomorrow at Lingfield, having finished fourth on debut at Nottingham last Thursday. The homebred daughter of Affinity was expected to need to run at Nottingham, but she loved the heavy ground and stayed on well in the closing stages, having been outpaced through the first three furlongs of the 5f contest. She is stepping up to 7½ furlongs tomorrow and her trainer, Sir Mark Prescott, is keen to run her while the ground is testing to give the daughter a Pivotal the best possible chance.
Recent Club results include Marsha's fine third place in soft ground in the Group 2 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last week. Our beloved filly stayed on well throughout the 5f race, but was caught on the rail at a crucial time, which may have cost her second place. The impressive winner, Battaash, had already flown, but we were delighted with her run, as we were unsure if she would cope with the testing conditions.
Last Sunday, Judicial ran another sound race this season to finish second in the Listed Queensferry Stakes at Chester, again despite the soft ground. Marsha's half-brother just failed to last home in the final furlong, as 6f stretches his stamina, especially when the ground is soft. He is another who has enjoyed a super year, winning three races already, and he looks as though there could be a Pattern race for him just round the corner.
