First hurdles win for Mon Frere
22 April 2021
A useful dual winner on the Flat, Mon Frere confirmed the translation of his ability to hurdles when winning his second start over timber at Taunton on Wednesday 21 April.
Having won over the middle distances on the Flat, Mon Frere had shown promise earlier this spring when a staying-on third on his hurdling debut over 2m. Stepping up in trip for this race, he finished his race well to win by an easy eight lengths and, providing there's some decent ground available, may run again in the next month.
The Paul Nicholls-trained Mon Frere's maiden hurdle win came just two weeks after his stable mate, Tulin, became the Club's 400th winner, and on an afternoon when his trainer surpassed his previous seasonal record by winners.
The win was also another feather in the cap for Elite Racing Club's breeding programme, which has produced more than 150 winners to date, Jumps and Flat, including eight Group 1 winners and one Grade 1 winner.
