First foals of 2022 start to arrive!
22 February 2022
Elite Racing Club's longstanding breeding programme has produced many winners, on the Flat and over Jumps over the years, including at the highest level under both codes.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the programme for members has undoubtedly been the chance to often follow a foal's progress from birth to the racecourse. This year, we're keeping our fingers firmly crossed for the safe delivery of our foals, and we were delighted to welcome the first two earlier this month, who were foaled at Kirtlington Stud, Oxfordshire.
Just before midnight on Wednesday 2 February, Roubles (by the top-class US stallion Speightstown and out of the Club's five-time Group 1 winner Soviet Song) produced a lovely bay filly foal by the French star miler, Territories.
Roubles isn't a large mare, but stud owner Chris Budgett noted that the filly foal is of a good size and was also pleased with size and strength of fellow Club broodmare Harmonica's colt foal by Bated Breath, who was foaled on Sunday 13 February. The dark bay colt foal (pictured) was noted as looking strong and correct, and being out of Harmonica (Listed-placed and a winner over a mile), and by Bated Breath, who was a top-class sprinter, he has the pedigree to make a nice two-year-old with the potential to progress at three years and beyond.
With more foals due in the coming weeks and months, this spring could be very fruitful and we look forward to the stud visits later this spring and summer (free for members), which will give those attending the chance to see foals and mares at close quarters.
