Elgin sets the ball rolling on Boxing Day
04 January 2017
December was a very quiet month for Club runners, but our Festive highlight came on Boxing Day when ELGIN started a promising-looking raceday off with an emphatic success at Kempton. Alan King trains our homebred son of Duke Of Marmalade and has always considered Elgin to be pretty useful, so for him to win his second start over hurdles at such a prestigious meeting is a feather in his cap.
Elgin remains unbeaten in both starts over hurdles and has now earned a BHA rating of 145, which could put him in contention to step up in grade next time out. Elgin appreciated the good ground at Kempton and showed a much more polished performance in his second race over hurdles, which is very encouraging. Alan highlighted the Dovecote Novices' Hurdle as a possible target, which is also run at Kempton, on 25 February.
Should Elgin succeed in this Grade 2 race, run on the Bet Bright Chase card, Alan King would have to seriously consider running at the Cheltenham Festival against the best young hurdlers around. We hope Elgin can keep progressing and, in doing so, keeping the dreams alive of thousands of Members of Elite Racing Club.
