Double Landed!

Double Landed!

07 June 2018

Courtesy of Man Of Harlech and Elgin, Elite Racing Club enjoyed a double on the Flat last week. Man Of Harlech made the short trip from Jim Boyle's base in Epsom to Lingfield for a 1m 1f handicap on the turf. Having enjoyed some relief from the handicapper this year, his penultimate effort at Windsor was much more like it off a mark of 79 and we were delighted to see him build on that effort to win at Lingfield with a really game effort. The handicapper hasn't gone mad putting him up 4lbs and hopefully there will be more to come from him this summer, when he gets his favoured cut in the ground.

Elgin, who is better known for his Jumps exploits having finished fifth in the Champion Hurdle in March, travelled to Catterick last Friday for his third start on the Flat. He needed this run for a handicap mark and took on the 88-rated Saroog, to whom Elgin had to give 7lbs. We knew it would take a useful effort for him to beat that horse, so to see him do it rather cosily and hardly coming off the bridle, was quite a spectacle. Unsurprisingly, the handicapper took no chances and this week gave him an opening mark of 101. We are really excited by the talent he has shown on the Flat in three starts so far and he could have a big target to aim at later this season.
