Club runners at York's Ebor Meeting

24 August 2017

York's Ebor meeting is often regarded as the Royal Ascot of the North, so it is exciting for the Club to have two runners there over the next couple of days. MARSHA runs in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday against previous sparring partners Lady Aurelia and Battaash, who are the short-priced favourites to win the valuable five-furlong contest. Marsha is a general third favourite, and should be suited by the conditions. Marsha has been placed behind the two horses mentioned this summer, so will probably require a career-best performance to beat them. We know that Marsha can punch above her weight, however, as she proved when winning on the biggest stage last year at Chantilly.

Twenty-four hours later, TOP TUG lines up for the Ebor Handicap over 1m6f. He has been a model of consistency this season, winning at Goodwood in May, before finishing fourth at Royal Ascot with top weight. Alan King has freshened up the Club's popular chestnut since then, so we hope for some luck in running in the 20-runner contest, and that he can put his best foot forward in Europe's richest handicap. We hope both horses return safe and sound and can run good races for the Club on ITV once again.
