Club doubly represented at Guineas Festival this weekend

05 May 2017

This weekend the Club has two runners at Newmarket's Guineas Festival. Tomorrow, our Group 1 winning sprinter, Marsha, lines up for the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at 2.20. This will be Marsha's first run since her emphatic success in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Chantilly last season, where she beat some of the best sprinters in Europe. Since then, she has pleased her trainer, Sir Mark Prescott, who reports she has been very calm and settled in her work this season.

Marsha has a tough task tomorrow, as she must concede weight to the entire field, as she has a penalty for her Group 1 victory. She is giving weight to last year's winner, Profitable, as well as some up and coming sprinters like Kimberella and Alpha Delphini. We hope Marsha will run well and set herself up for the season, as she has potential targets at Haydock later this month and at Royal Ascot later in the summer. It will be a joy to watch out flying filly, who is homebred out of Club mare, Marlinka.

On 1,000 Guineas day, Top Tug runs in the first race of the day, the Qatar Racing Handicap. Top Tug has not run for six weeks, since disappointing over hurdles at Kempton in March, but his trainer, Alan King, feels that he is a better horse on the Flat. He loves fast ground and has won at the Rowley Mile course before, when trained by Sir Michael Stoute, prior to being purchased by the Club. Naturally, it is a very tough race, but Top Tug runs well fresh and loves fast ground, so we hope he can also run with credit on the biggest stage at Head Quarters.
