Canasta to join Club's breeding programme
22 September 2020
The well-bred Club winner Canasta has become the latest addition to Elite Racing Club's highly successful breeding programme.
By the top-class miler Charm Spirit, who won three Group 1 races as a three-year-old, Canasta is from an equally outstanding family on her dam's side. A half-sister to three winners (between 1m and 1m4f), Canasta is out of a dam who was a 6f winner at two years, and is from the family of the top-class juvenile Three Valleys, and the 2019 Group 1 Fillies' Mile winner, Quadrilateral.
Canasta was trained by James Fanshawe, winning once at three years, and in becoming a Club broodmares, her outstanding pedigree usefully introduces a new breeding line to the breeding programme.
Progeny from Elite Racing Club's breeding programme have accrued more than 100 wins since the first homebred winner in 1998, including eight at Group 1 level. The successes have also been achieved at some of racing's most prestigious fixtures, such as Royal Ascot, the Cheltenham Festival, the Arc de Triomphe meeting and Glorious Goodwood.
