Bardd second on return to action last Saturday

03 April 2017

Bardd finished second at Uttoxeter on Saturday, after running too keenly in the early stages. He jumped very well in the conditional jockeys' race under Ned Curtis, and was still on the scene coming to last, before his earlier exertions took their toll. Considering how strong Bardd was in the early stages, he ran well to challenge for the win nearing the post. The race contained several inexperienced novices and there was plenty of jostling for positions through the race, but the son of Dylan Thomas coped well and should not be as fresh next time out.

He remains on a sensible-looking handicap mark of 119, which could be of interest to Nicky Henderson and he attempts to regain the champion trainers' trophy from Paul Nicholls this season. Judicial finished fifth at Kempton on Saturday and should now return to five furlongs on turf. He has run well on the all-weather this season, but has achieved a higher Timeform rating on turf, so is likely to have more use made of him over the minimum distance in future, rather than trying to settle him over six furlongs, as has been the case recently.
