The Trainers

Andrew Balding
Kingsclere, Hampshire.
Since taking over the historic stables at Kingsclere in 2003, Andrew has established himself as one of the most successful of the new generation of trainers. His profile yard has enjoyed high-profile successes at home, with Casual Look in the Oaks, and also abroad, most notably with the three-time Group 1 winner, Phoenix Reach.

Jim Boyle
Epsom, Surrey.
An up-and-coming trainer on the Flat, Jim is also a qualified vet and has quickly established his Epsom yard at the forefront of all-weather racing. He made a bright start to his career as a Club trainer when astutely placing Harlech Castle to record a sequence of three wins.

Julie Camacho
Malton, North Yorkshire.
A long-standing Club trainer, Julie has the distinction of having trained our first-ever homebred winner and also the prolific Dancing Bay during his early Flat career. Based on the outskirts of Malton, Julie's yard is also home to some of the Club's breeding stock, including Kalinka, the dam of Soviet Song and Penzance.

Roger Charlton
Marlborough, Wiltshire.
A long-time assistant to the late Jeremy Tree, Roger took over the reins at Beckhampton stables and won the Derby and French equivalent in his first season, with Sanglamore and Quest For Fame. Roger has also notably handled the Group 1-winning sprinters Avonbridge, Patavellian, Tante Rose and Tamarisk, and in 2009 added Border Patrol to the list of the Club's Group-race winners.

James Fanshawe
Newmarket, Suffolk.
The Club's five-time Group 1 winner Soviet Song is the most successful horse to have been trained by James but he has saddled plenty of other big-race winners, including the Classic-winning Arctic Owl. Based at Pegasus Stables, James has also trained winners at the highest level over jumps, twice winning the Champion Hurdle among several successes at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals.

James Given
Willoughton, Lincolnshire.
A qualified vet who began his racing career as an assistant trainer to Mark Johnston, James took out his own licence in 1998. His greatest wins to date include the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes, the Ebor and the Cambridgeshire, and also top-class success with the Group 1 and Classic-placed Summitville. His first Royal Ascot success came in 2010 with the Club homebred Dandino.

Nicky Henderson
Lambourn, Berkshire.
Nicky is firmly established as one of the top National Hunt trainers in the country and has enjoyed countless big race triumphs over the years, with greats like See You Then, Remittance Man, Punjabi and Binocular, with the 2010/11 season particularly memorable for Long Run's King George and Cheltenham Gold Cup successes.

Mark Johnston
Middleham, North Yorkshire.
Mark qualified as a vet before becoming one of the country's top Flat trainers. Mark sent out more winners in the UK in 2009 and 2010 than any other trainer. Some of his best horses have been Mister Baileys, Shamardal, Attraction, Double Trigger, Royal Rebel and Bijou d'Inde.

Alan King
Wroughton, Wiltshire.
One of the leading jumps trainers, Alan was assistant to the late David Nicholson before taking out his own licence and going on to win the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle with the Club's homebred Penzance. Alan's other high-profile successes include the Champion Chase, the World Hurdle, the Arkle twice and the Champion Hurdle.

Emma Lavelle
Andover, Hampshire.
Emma enjoyed early success with the classy hurdler Self Defense and the profile of her yard has really been raised in recent seasons by wins at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals with Crack Away Jack, Pause And Clause and Bouggler. With her results improving with each season, Emma looks set to maintain her rise into the upper echelons of the training ranks.

Donald McCain
Cholmondeley, Cheshire.
Donald Jr is a son of Aintree legend Donald 'Ginger' McCain, the trainer of Red Rum, and he followed in his father's footsteps when he won the 2011 Grand National with the brave Ballabrigs. Donald has made rapid progress in the training ranks and last season impressed with his first century of wins, finishing third in the National Hunt Trainers' Championship.
